The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Video review technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the right to challenge specific calls from the official, mirroring the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC introduced electronic line calling, which brought an end to the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review other decisions, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of reviews a competitor can request.
Case in Point
An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player used the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire watched a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
