The artist has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which operates to save the United Kingdom's small concert spaces.

Fender was presented with the award on mid-October as his latest record the album was declared the top album of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the region, and further afield, when I was beginning," remarked the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports independent venues.

Fender also joined in, generating in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support 38 small stages across Britain.

These funds supported venues that were facing possible closure due to issues caused by flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Some locations received funding support in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from concerts in big venues backs the independent spots, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

He is far from the only musician to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

When the band earned the trophy in 1996 for their record Different Class, frontman Cocker announced that the group would give their cash to the charity the charity.

That year, rapper and singer the artist split her bounty between a few good causes, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked new equipment," she explained to a publication.

In recent years, the band gave their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, alongside other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year M People donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the extra but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the cake. So our victory touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into local control.

The Joiners in that area and The Croft in the city were acquired under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
