PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
