Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important official commented the attack left him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
